Strong To Severe Thunderstorms Approaching

By Steven DiMartino

A broken line of strong to severe thunderstorms are approaching northeastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, and later the Hudson Valley and the New York City metro.

As discussed in the technical forecast discussion, a weak disturbance will move through the forecast area and produce isolated strong to severe thunderstorms.  These thunderstorms are moving quickly to the east and northeast around 15 to 30 mph.  The strongest thunderstorms will produce frequent lightning, small hail, heavy downpours, and wind gusts to 65 mph.  Due to a lack of vertical shear, tornadoes are not expected with these thunderstorms.
