Hurricane Ike Continues To Batter Texas

Hurricane Ike continues to move into northeastern Texas and beginning to turn towards the central Mississippi Valley through the next 24 to 48 hours.  Naturally with Hurricane Ike over land, the hurricane will continue to weaken, however the large storm is still expected to bring hurricane force winds from Dallas to western Louisiana and tropical storm force winds eventually to places as far north as St. Louis by Sunday.

The impacts of Hurricane Ike on the Texas coast have become obvious as the destruction is seen on various cable and network.  Hurricane Ike has produced and will continue to produce wide spread flooding.  The island of Galvestion is basically under water the damage was in some cases catastrophic.

As a trough lifts to the northeast over the southern Plains and towards the Ohio Valley, the remnants of Hurricane Ike will become absorbed by the trough.  The trough and the remnants of Ike will race towards the Ohio Valley and eastern Great Lakes with periods of heavy rain through Monday.  By Tuesday, the remnants of Ike will be over the northern Atlantic and no longer a threat to the United States.
