Great Weekend Ahead, Cold Front By Monday

High pressure that will move from the Great Lakes through the forecast area this weekend will provide clear and dry conditions through Saturday and Sunday for the forecast area.  Temperatures will remain below normal at a rate of 8 to 12 degrees, so continue to expect chilly conditions.

The idea of a rapid warm up on some of the model guidance is all but gone.  Instead of a massive upper low over the Great Lakes, a weak disturbance will move through the Great Lakes and into New England by Monday.  A trailing cold front will follow on Monday morning with rain and higher elevation snow showers.  There may be some secondary cyclogenesis on Monday afternoon, which will extend the period of scattered rain/snow showers over the entire forecast area, but given the lack of a negative NAO, I don’t foresee any major development of coastal low pressure systems on Monday.

High pressure will build into the forecast area on Tuesday with clear skies and below normal temperatures in the range of 8 to 10 degrees below normal high temperature levels.

At this point, November will certainly end on a cold note.  What will follow for December?  Well, let’s just say now is a bad time for a meteorologist in the Northeast to take an extended vacation.
