Snow Shower Threat Through This Morning
I wanted to expand on the developing snow showers over the forecast area this morning.
The developing coastal low off the Mid Atlantic coast this morning is stronger than forecast, a trend in the models with these low pressure developments which is troubling and interesting for this winter. At any rate, the IR satellite this morning shows a clear area of strong rising motion along the Mid Atlantic coast while upper level energy dives towards the Philadelphia metro from the Great Lakes. The majority of the steady precipitation will remain to the south of the forecast area. However, the developing precipitation over southern New Jersey will produce a few scattered snow showers this morning with potential for up to a dusting in some locations. This low pressure system should exit by this afternoon leaving the rest of the week dry, cold, and quiet.
