Moderation Ahead Of An Important Cold Front
Warmer conditions are on the way for the next 48 hours as a southwesterly wind strengthens today through tomorrow.
Today will actually be the coldest day of the period with temperatures starting out in the lower 10’s to upper 20’s throughout the forecast area. High pressure will slide through the forecast area supporting generally clear skies and winds backing to the southwest. Temperatures will struggle to break 30 today for many locations with the only exception being the immediate coast line and southern New Jersey.
Clouds will begin to increase after mid night tonight as the southwesterly flow continues from the surface to 500 MB. Temperatures will not be as cold as tonight with 850 MB temperatures moderating, however temperatures will still be able to bottom out in the 10’s and 20’s.
By Tuesday and Tuesday night, strong WAA will take hold with broken to overcast cloud cover along with the threat of scattered showers. Temperatures will rise into the 40’s and 50’s and will not fall much through Tuesday night under the support of WAA over the region.
A strong cold front, which will be an important feature with the upcoming winter storm, will move through the forecast area with rain, heavy at times. Winds will be strong out of the southwest around 10 to 15 mph with temperatures rising into the 50’s and possibly breaking 60 ahead of the cold front. However, significant changes will follow behind the cold front passage in the afternoon as winds veer to the northwest and temperatures quickly crash through the 40’s and 30’s in the evening. The precipitation will slide to the south of the forecast area briefly on Wednesday evening as temperatures fall.
