Light Snow On The Way

6:58 AM

The Alberta Clipper that is driving through the Great Lakes has some bands of light snow showers moving through Pennsylvania this morning.  The first band appears to be virga (precipitation that doesn’t reach the ground due to evaporation in drier layers of the atmosphere) as I have not seen one observation of snow from the observation.  However, I do expect some light snow this morning throughout the forecast area as the cold front moves through before redevelopment along the coast.  Snowfall accumulations will range from a trace to as much as an inch in some isolated locations.  The precipitation will exit the entire forecast area by the afternoon hours followed by clearing conditions in the evening.

High pressure will bring pleasant conditions to the forecast area on Saturday ahead of yet another clipper.  Temperatures will continue to average slightly below normal under the strong cyclonic flow of the 50/50 low to the north.

Another low pressure system will quickly race through the forecast area on Sunday.  This low will be getting sheared by the strong confluent flow aloft, so I’m not expecting much in precipitation.  Rain can be expected along the immediate coast and over the Philadelphia metro.  However, a mix of snow, sleet, and rain will be expected over the interior especially for locations of the Poconos, the Hudson Valley, and interior Connecticut.  Snow and ice accumulations will remain below an inch in snow and sleet and around 0.10″ in ice.  The majority of the dynamics of this low pressure system will be weakened over the Great Lakes before reaching the forecast area.
