Cold High Pressure Takes Control
5:52 AM
After a very snowy 24 hours, high pressure is going to bring quiet yet cold conditions to the forecast area over the next several days. Winds are currently from the northwest around 10 to 20 mph, which is producing wind chills in the single digits below zero to single digits above freezing. Frankly at time point, any way you slice it, it is cold out there.
The snow pack is going to keep temperatures rather cold for the next several days, especially in the morning where radiational cooling will allow temperatures to fall rapidly. I’m going to go slightly below MOS guidance in the forecast, but feel that the GFS MOS is still doing a reasonably good job with the forecast.
By Thursday, high pressure will slide to the east of the forecast area with a strengthening southwesterly flow throughout the forecast area. The developing warm air advection will bring warmer temperatures, but also the potential for some dense fog in the morning.
