The pattern that is going to unfold through this weekend is a typical spring time pattern as the trough that has been positioned over the East the past few months continues to retrograde to the West. As a result, a series of low pressure system will rapidly move through the Mid Atlantic for the second half of the week with the potential for scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms.
High pressure will move through the forecast area on Tuesday with partly cloudy skies and light winds, but will quickly exit east of the region by Tuesday night. A disturbance moving along the eastern edge of the trough will move through the Mid Atlantic on Wednesday with showers throughout the forecast area and a few isolated thunderstorms. An area of low pressure is expected to intensify along the coast on Wednesday night with some steadier rainfall, along the immediate coast. The progressive nature of the upper level pattern will keep disturbances moving quickly through the East, thus weak high pressure will return quickly to the forecast area by Thursday with clearing skies. Another disturbance will move through on Friday with scattered showers and a period of steady rain, but will also move quickly through the forecast area.
Temperatures through this week will average near normal as a stronger Pacific influence is experienced throughout the CONUS. In fact, compared to last week, this week will be very much spring like and will be significantly warmer.
