April showers a risk through the week
9:00 AM
The low pressure system that will bring heavy rain to the forecast area on Monday will have a consistent influence on the forecast area for much of next week. The upper low associated with the storm will park itself over Quebec through Wednesday before lifting towards the north Atlantic. The cyclonic flow around this upper low will send disturbances through the forecast area Tuesday through Thursday. As a result, partly cloudy skies and widely scattered showers can be expected each day through much of the week. Temperatures through the week will average below normal in the upper 40’s to upper 50’s. Basically the conditions seen today will be seen through much of next week.
Another strong low pressure system will approach the forecast area from the southern Mississippi Valley on Friday. The latest model guidance suggest that this low pressure system will have a strong moisture source from the Gulf of Mexico. This is a key observation as far as forecasting rainfall amounts. There is potential that this low pressure system produces significantly less precipitation than seen on current model guidance depending on the development and intensity of thunderstorms over the Southeast on Thursday night and Friday morning, so that influence will have to be monitored. Overall though, Friday looks like another very wet day for the forecast area. The good news is that all this rain should make a dent on the drought situation. Always got to look at the positive!
