Tropical Weather Update for Monday, June 8 2009
7:50 AM
Strong shear continues to dominate much of the Tropical Atlantic this morning as a strong upper low continues to rotate over the central Tropical Atlantic. As a result, a strong upper level jet stream is cutting through the western Caribbean towards the African coast, which is inhibiting any type of development over the Atlantic.
There is one area to keep an eye on, which is over the western Caribbean where a weak tropical low has developed along an old stationary cold front. The shear over this location is weakening, but remains from the southwest. The future for this disturbance is not bright as clearly the only direction for this disturbance to go is through Cuba and eventually along the eastern side of the trough along the East coast of the United States. The disturbance may have more influence in adding moisture to a series of low pressure systems cutting through the Mid Atlantic than any direction impact on the United States in general. Still, development is possible and will have to be monitored through the next 48 to 66 hours.
Otherwise no development is expected through the next 3 days or until that upper low over the Atlantic exits to the east.
