Tropical Weather Update for Thursday, June 11 2009
7:55 AM
While the upper low over the central Tropical Atlantic is no more, a strong westerly shear dominates much of the region with no
development expected over the next three days. A trough over the Caribbean Sea is producing strong southwesterly shear from Cuba on through the Leeward Islands. Meanwhile, disturbances coming off the African coast have been weak and very disorganized. In fact, most disturbances have just collapsed coming off the African coast, which may be due to the below normal sea surface temperatures that have developed in this region. The Gulf of Mexico will remain quiet as dry, sinking air dominates the region, which will also inhibit any development for the next several days. In short, this is the exact opposite of a favorable environment for tropical development.
