Tropical Weather Update for Tuesday, June 16 2009

7:32 AM

This morning over the Tropical Atlantic, a strong upper low northeast of the Leeward Islands is producing strong southwesterly shear wv-l-1from the eastern Caribbean through the central tropical Atlantic.  This shear is and will continue to inhibit any type of development for the next 48 hours.

However, wind shear has weakened considerably over the western Caribbean, specifically around the Yucatan Peninsula where a very weak disturbance is trying to organize.  Showers and thunderstorms continue to develop off the central American coast, however a closed low has yet to form under these showers and thunderstorms.  Any development will be slow to unfold.

The Gulf of Mexico remain quiet with strong surface high pressure suppressing any type of convective development.
