Strong to severe thunderstorms moving through northern teir

8:55 Pm

rgnlradA strong disturbance ahead of a cold front over the eastern Great Lakes is produce strong to severe thunderstorms, which is approaching the central and southern Hudson Valley and extreme northern New Jersey or basically Sussex County, New Jersey.  These thunderstorms are producing frequent ground to cloud lightning strikes, large hail, and wind gusts exceeding 55 mph along with impressive downpours.  Flash flooding is a risk with these thunderstorms.

As the evening continues, the atmosphere will slowly stabilize which will cause the thunderstorms to weaken.  However, the complex of showers and thunderstorms will continue to press eastward overnight and bring heavy rainfall to much of the Hudson Valley (south of Albany), Connecticut, and potentially Long Island by the early morning hours of Friday.
