Tropical Weather Update for Saturday, July 4 2009

6:43 AM

No new developments to report throughout the Tropical Atlantic.  Surface high pressure continues to keep much of the northern Gulf of wv-l-1Mexico quiet with clear skies and dry conditions.  An upper low over the western Caribbean is producing showers and thunderstorms over the Bay of Campeche through the western Caribbean this morning and will continue to do so through the next 24 hours.  The combination of the upper low over the western Caribbean and a building ridge of high pressure over the Leeward Island is producing strong southwesterly wind shear throughout the rest of the Caribbean.  No development is expected over the next 48 hours in these locations.

The rest of the Atlantic has no significant signs of development.  An upper low over the central Atlantic has a slight potential (less than 30%) of development, but any transition to a tropical low pressure system will be slow.  Meanwhile, the tropical waves moving off the African coast remain weak and disorganized.
