Tropical Weather Update for Saturday, July 11 2009
9:53 AM
A developing upper low over the northwestern Caribbean Sea, just south of western Cuba, is dominating much of the rest of Caribbean Sea with the exception of the extreme eastern Caribbean Sea. The upper low is producing scattered showers and thunderstorms, which can produce heavy downpours. However, the cyclonic upper level winds will continue to produce strong shear which will limit any tropical development. This upper low is developing at the base of an old trough that has pushed through the Gulf of Mexico. The northern Gulf of Mexico will remain quiet as dry air builds into much of the region with clearing skies and light winds.
The rest of the Tropical Atlantic remains in a favorable upper level state for development, however no disturbance has shown much of any sign of development and no development is expected over the next 48 hours.
