Another day of clear skies
6:41 AM
Clear skies and comfortable conditions start off what should be an excellent day of weather.
The forecast area is still under the influence of an upper level trough, which has been the theme of the summer thus far. However, these influences can be though of as a positive as the region is on the convergent portion of the trough. This means that upper level winds are coming together and slowing down at the base of the trough, which produces sinking air over the region. As a result, high pressure will remain in control through tomorrow evening with clear skies, low humidity, and comfortable temperatures.
The dry and comfortable conditions do not appear to last long though as a new disturbance, currently over the northern Plains this morning, will drive into the Great Lakes and carve out yet another trough that will impact the Northeast and Mid Atlantic through next weekend.
A series of cold fronts will move through the region from Wednesday through Sunday morning with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The strongest cold front will move through on Thursday evening with wide spread showers and thunderstorms, while the rest of the period can expected showers and thunderstorms to be of the widely scattered nature. As the final disturbance lifts out on Sunday morning, high pressure from the Ohio Valley will build into the region and remain in control through Monday. Temperatures will remain slightly below normal through the period with afternoon highs ranging in the upper 70’s to lower 80’s.
