Wet night ahead, better conditions for the rest of the week
By8:15 PM
Strong moisture advection off the Atlantic is supporting light to moderate rain along the coast and light snow over portions of Connecticut, the Hudson Valley, and northeastern Pennsylvania. The snow will continue to slowly accumulate over these locations as temperatures slowly fall into the upper 20′s to lower 30′s with accumulations of another 1 to 3 inches.
Otherwise, light rain will continue along the coast through tonight as the coastal low slowly exits into the Atlantic. Winds of 10 to 20 mph along the coast and 5 to 15 mph over the interior will back from the north to northwest tonight which will decrease the threat of any coastal flooding.
Once the low pressure system exits by tomorrow morning, high pressure over the Ohio Valley will begin to build into the northern Mid Atlantic by tomorrow afternoon, which will prompt clearing conditions. High pressure will remain in control through Monday morning with dry conditions, scattered clouds, and moderating temperatures into the 40′s and 50′s for highs by this weekend.
A cold front is expected on Monday afternoon which may set the stage for some wintery weather for at least the interior. At this time, I am not very impressed with forecasted boundary layer temperatures, even over the interior, for accumulating snowfall despite the colder 850 MB temperatures for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. As such, I don’t expect this next storm for next week being much of a major winter impact.
