Temperatures on the way down

12/05/12  8:00 AM

A cold front will continue to move through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas this morning with scattered showers and falling temperatures as winds shift to the west and later northwest.

The showers associated with the cold front are relatively weak and will exit the New York City and Philadelphia by 10 AM.  Scattered clouds can be expected for the rest of the day.  The warmest conditions of the day can be expected this morning with early highs in the lower to mid 50′s.  Temperatures will fall through the 40′s this afternoon as winds shift to the northwest at 5 to 15 mph with gusts over 25 mph.

High pressure will be in control tonight through Friday with scattered cloud cover.  Initially, the high pressure system will be over the New York City and Philadelphia metropolitan areas with light winds and cold temperatures.  Temperatures will range from the mid 20′s to lower 30′s for lows and upper 30′s to mid 40′s for highs.  However, by Friday the high pressure system will shift off the coast leading to a southwesterly wind and temperatures rebounding to the upper 20′s to lower 30′s for lows and mid 40′s to lower 50′s for highs.

A warm front will slowly push north on Saturday through Monday with scattered showers and variable clouds.  Temperatures will return to above normal levels with lows in the lower to mid 40′s and highs in the mid to upper 50′s.  A powerful cold front will move through on Tuesday with widespread moderate to heavy rain along with temperatures crashing through the 40′s and into the 30′s through the day.
