Screen Shot 2013-01-17 at 7.39.52 AMAn area of low pressure over the Tennessee River Valley will lift northeast towards the Delaware coast tonight with the threat for light snow over the southern New Jersey late this evening through early tomorrow morning.

Snow Map Final 011813A strong cold front over the Great Lakes will drop south through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas this afternoon.  While colder air will work south this afternoon, limiting high temperatures in the upper 30’s to lower 40’s over the interior and mid 40’s along the coast, the cold front will help to suppress the expansion of moisture further north.  As a result, while clouds will increase throughout the entire Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas, most locations will remain dry with only a few scattered snow showers expected.  Snow fall amounts of up to 4 inches can be expected for extreme southern New Jersey, however only a trace to an inch is expected elsewhere.  Temperatures will fall into the upper 10’s over the interior and lower to mid 20’s along the coast.

Scattered snow showers will linger tomorrow morning followed by clearing conditions.  High pressure will be in control tonight on through Sunday with scattered clouds expected.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph through the period.  Low temperatures will range from the upper 10’s to mid 20’s on Saturday and mid 20’s to lower 30’s on Sunday.  High temperatures will range from the upper 20’s to mid 30’s on Friday and upper 30’s to mid 40’s on Saturday and Sunday.

A strong cold front will drive through the region on Monday morning with scattered snow showers and temperatures falling to below normal levels.  An area of low pressure will have the potential to bring snow to the region on Tuesday with lingering snow showers on Wednesday.  Temperatures will range from the upper 10’s to mid 20’s for lows and mid 20’s to lower 30’s for highs.
