An area of low pressure will redevelop along the southern New Jersey coast this evening and bring the threat for scattered snow showers and potentially a period of light snowfall along the immediate coast.

Snow Map012113Clouds will increase through the day as an area of low pressure develops.  Winds will be from the north at 5 to 15 mph while temperatures rise into the upper 20’s to lower 30’s over the interior and mid to upper 30’s along the coast.

As the low pressure system develops, areas of snow showers will form with a focus along the coast.  Overall, a trace to two inches of snow can be expected with two to four inches possible over eastern Long Island and southeastern Connecticut.  However, there is potential for an intense band of snowfall developing from central and northeastern New Jersey through the New York City metropolitan area and towards southern New England that may enhance snowfall totals above the current forecast.  Winds will back from the northeast to northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 10’s over the interior and lower to mid 20’s along the coast.

High pressure will be in complete control tomorrow through Thursday with scattered cloud cover and very cold conditions.  A few flurries and snow showers will be a threat each day.  Low temperatures will range from the single digits over the interior and lower to mid 10’s along the coast.  High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 20’s over the interior and upper 20’s to lower 30’s along the coast.

An area of low pressure will bring periods of snow, heavy at times, on Friday.  Significant snowfall totals will be possible throughout the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.  Temperatures on Friday will range from the lower to mid 10’s for lows and mid 20’s to lower 30’s for highs.

High pressure will be in complete control for Saturday and Sunday with scattered clouds.  Temperatures will range from the mid 10’s to lower 20’s and upper 20’s to lower 30’s for highs.
