The forecast for the next three days is obviously going to be the most active in the next 24 hours.
Currently, a coastal low pressure system is developing off the New Jersey coast. Winds along the coast are beginning to turn to the northwest over southern New Jersey and northeast along Long Island, clearly indicating [...]

The coastal low is rapidly taking over as the primary low as pressures fall off the Delaware coast. The precipitation shield should be watched for some “back building” over eastern Pennsylvania through late morning and into the early afternoon. However, the majority of the precipitation is over southeastern Pennsylvania, away from Philadelphia.
Over New Jersey and [...]

The set up that will be developing tonight through tomorrow does not support a wide spread snow storm for the forecast area and certainly not for locations along the coast. While almost the entire forecast area will see some snow, the snow will change over to rain along the coast. Why?
As I have [...]

Enjoy the warm conditions this morning and early this afternoon, because the rest of the forecast period will feature well below normal temperatures and even the potential for snow, which I will discuss in the next post.
The strong cold front is currently (6:50 AM) moving through western Pennsylvania with a line of light to moderate [...]

Enjoy the comfortable conditions you will experience today into early tomorrow morning, because the end of the near normal temperature regime is about to end.
For today, high pressure will move through the forecast area, which will support clear skies and comfortable temperatures for this afternoon. Winds will be from the southwest around 5 to 10 [...]

Yes, that’s one little nasty disturbance that was NOT forecasted by the model guidance turning the corner. A surface low is developing along the Gulf Stream to the east of [...]

First, I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy that turkey, pies, and the NFL football. Well, okay the football games won’t be that great, but let’s be thankful that we can watch them! That’s the spirit, right!
The forecast area through this period will continue to be under the influence of the strong upper [...]

The low pressure system that is rapidly developing over the Gulf Stream is too far east to produce any type of significant precipitation over the forecast area. In fact, at most, locations along the immediate coast may see a stray flurry along the immediate coastal locations of Long Island and New Jersey. The main impact [...]

The cold front is currently moving through the forecast area right now with scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms. The cold front is moving slightly faster than guidance suggested, however the threat for showers and thunderstorms should remain until the afternoon hours.
High pressure will build into the forecast area from the Great Lakes and [...]

The coastal low off the Mid Atlantic coast apparently likes the area, as the low pressure system continues to sit over the forecast area. As a result, clouds and a weakening northeasterly wind will persist through the afternoon hours. Regardless, temperatures will warm into the mid to upper 60’s throughout the forecast area, which will [...]
