Tropical Storm Gustav is just about to exit the western Jamaican coast this morning and beginning to show signs of rapid development this morning. The outflow for Gustav is maturing rapidly and cloud tops are cooling dramatically, which is a sign of strong rising air under Gustav. I’m expecting Gustav to reach hurricane strength again [...]

Tropical Storm Gustav has redeveloped to the south of Haiti and to the east of Jamaica, under some very deep convection. Gustav will be under a building ridge of high pressure ridge over the next 66 hours, which will allow the tropical storm to intensify back to hurricane strength and beyond.

Gustav this morning is being impacted by the higher terrain of Haiti this morning, which has weakened Gustav to a tropical storm. However, Gustav is expected to quickly restrengthen over the next 24 hours to a hurricane once again.
