The first outer band of Tropical Storm Hanna is currently moving through the Delmarva Peninsula and crossing the Delaware Bay. This rain band interacting with a strong mid level boundary right over the Delmarva Peninsula and much of Maryland. The severe thunderstorms over Chester and Montgomery Counties of Pennsylvania have produced hail over 1 inch in diameter this morning. Official spotter observations from the National Weather service have reported hail size ranging from 0.50″ to 2.00″ in diameter over West Chester, Pennsylvania.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Cape May County in New Jersey. This thunderstorm appears to mean business. The thunderstorm has produced penny size hail, frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and wind gusts to 55 mph.

The remaining cold pool from an MCS this morning is rapidly moving east towards the Mid Atlantic coast. While I believe the majority of the severe weather will be focused over Maryland and Delaware, parts of southern New Jersey will still be at threat through the afternoon hours as the atmosphere destabilizes.

A severe thunderstorm moving through Cape May, New Jersey has been reported by an official spotter of producing nickel size hail, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours. This thunderstorm will continue to move to the east and will exit North Wildwood, New Jersey by 3:07 PM.
