Pattern change promises a return of real summer conditions

7:15 Am
Summer-like conditions will return to the forecast area and will do so in a short period of time.  That means that humid air and temperatures in the 80’s and possibly 90’s will return to the forecast area.  When the hot summer conditions return, I’m willing to bet that the conditions will feel hotter and [...]

What has caused the heavy rainfall this month?

9:52 AM
June has seen some very impressive rainfall amounts with many locations well over an inch above normal.  Even some locations double the amount of normal rainfall.  While a continuous onslaught of showers and thunderstorms have impacted much of the Mid Atlantic, and specifically the New York City and Philadelphia metropolitan areas, other locations have [...]

High pressure gives way as rain is on the way

7:27 AM
The pleasant weather conditions from yesterday are about to come to an end.  So is my confidence in model guidance, by the way.  However, before I get to that, let’s take a look at the precipitation that is charging towards the forecast area.
High pressure currently centered over eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island, will continue [...]

Drier weather returns to the forecast area

7:58 AM
The rainy pattern that much of the forecast area has experienced this June is taking a short break, as high pressure positions itself over Maine this morning.  The position of the high pressure system will still force a marine air mass in place over the region, which is supporting the low clouds this morning. [...]

Maritime High Pressure Keeps Clouds Over Region

8:36 AM
Through this up coming week, the weather conditions will mirror more of late September rather than mid June as high pressure positions itself over Maine and several waves of low pressure passes to the south.  Conditions like yesterday’s heavy rain event may develop for any particular afternoon where some clearing develops and mesoscale boundaries [...]

Showers remain a threat as humid conditions dominant

10:10 AM
The type of pattern the forecast area is being influenced by is at times difficult to forecast for in terms of timing showers and thunderstorms as there are several factors that mixing the atmosphere.  For one, take a look at the latest visible satellite image.
The stationary front over the southern Mid Atlantic, is [...]

Atmosphere destabilizing once again

1:33 PM
As the cold front stalls over the New Jersey coast this afternoon, some of the low clouds have broken and has allowed the sun to break through.  As a result, the atmosphere is warming and becoming unstable.  With the frontal boundary remaining an area of focused low level lifting, this means the development of [...]

Another day, another stationary frontal boundary

8:52 AM
This summer is not shaping up to be one that works out well for beach lovers.  This morning, yet another cold front is slowly losing steam over the forecast area as scattered showers continue to move through the region.
The majority of the rainfall is now off the coast as the best dynamics race towards the [...]

Another cool, raw day for this summer

7:34 AM
The theme for this summer, raw and cool, looks to continue as once again the forecast area is positioned north of a stationary front this morning.  The forecast area is clearly under the influence of a marine air mass as an easterly wind fostered by high pressure over Maine and a stationary front over [...]

Evening Update- another disturbance on the way

8:13 PM
A disturbance along the stationary front is approaching the forecast area this evening with an area of showers and thunderstorms.  Given the heavy rain that has fallen, flood warning have been issued for parts of southeastern Pennsylvania this evening.
These showers will continue to progress eastward through the overnight hours and will be aided [...]
