Another Windy Start To The Week

Posted by: Steven DiMartino | Comments Comments Off

6:27 AM

The strong upper low responsible for the severe weather last evening is currently moving through western New ecw1York while a surface low is intensifying over New England.  The combination of the strengthening low pressure system and the high pressure system building in from the west is producing windy northwesterly conditions over the forecast area.  Wind speeds are ranging from 15 to 30 mph with some higher gusts and will continue through much of the afternoon.  A few scattered rain and snow showers will be possible over northeastern Pennsylvania and the Hudson Valley as the upper low moves into northern New England this afternoon.

High pressure will continue to build into the forecast area tonight with clearing skies and decreasing winds from the west.  The high pressure system will move through the forecast area on Tuesday with clear skies, light and variable winds, and near normal temperatures.

The active Spring pattern will kick back up again by Wednesday as another low pressure system moves through the Mid Atlantic with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms.  Temperatures will average near normal through the period.

Great Start To The Week

Posted by: Steven DiMartino | Comments Comments Off

High pressure is in full control this morning and will continue to build into the forecast area through the afternoon.  Through this period, the strong upper low over eastern Ontario will slowly lift towards Quebec by Wednesday.  Strong convergence and confluence over the western Great Lakes this morning will move towards northern New England, which will guide the surface high pressure in the same general direction.  850 MB temperatures will remain in the zero to 5 below range through much of the period until Wednesday afternoon, which will lead to below normal temperatures in the morning and afternoon.
