It’s amazing how much weather conditions can change in less than 24 hours! Just this morning, overcast conditions dominated and the regions was still soaked from the five day rainfall event! This afternoon, conditions could not be much different with clear skies and much warmer temperatures as highs blew past forecasted temperatures into the [...]

A weak yet pesky low pressure system continues to move away from the New Jersey coast this morning, however the persistent northeast to easterly winds associated with the low is keeping overcast skies and damp conditions over much of the northern Mid Atlantic.
Scattered showers continue to move through much of eastern Pennsylvania and New [...]

Sorry for the late update. I don’t know why, but Sunday’s always seem to be the day where I sleep the most. I promise that won’t be an issue for winter storms though. Those storms are like caffeine for me.

An area of low pressure off the VA/NC coast is moving along a stationary front that extends northeastward through the New Jersey coastal waters. This low pressure system is enhancing lifting over the Philadelphia and southern New York City metropolitan area, producing periods of moderate to heavy rainfall. This rainfall was a bit unexpected [...]

The first Nor’ Easter to impact the northern Mid Atlantic is now exiting into the Atlantic with lingering showers and overcast conditions throughout the Mid Atlantic.
This first storm produced rainfall amounts ranging from 0.25″ to 1.06″ with Atlantic City receiving the highest recorded official rainfall. I did receive some observations in Ocean and Monmouth [...]

High pressure will produce clear to scattered cloud cover through this afternoon. As the high pressure system shifts off the coast, clouds will increase tonight with broken to overcast cloud cover yet dry conditions. On Friday, a warm front will drive through the coastal waters and stall around the Long Island Sound with overcast [...]

This afternoon, the trough that brought overcast conditions to much of the northern Mid Atlantic through this morning is exiting the Northeastern coast. Note the axis of this trough, which is tilted from southwest to northeast. This tilt is caused a “positive” tilt and at this position with the axis along the region, subsidence [...]

The upper level pattern is about to go into a significant transition from a progressive pattern to one of significant amplification. Of all the model guidance, I believe the ECMWF is the most aggressive, however the ECMWF has an established track record of picking up these pattern changes so the model should not be [...]
