Another round of rainfall is expected tonight with this storm, however the worst conditions are over.
The storm developed initially as a frontal boundary off the New Jersey coast. As a strong upper low started to drive towards the Mississippi Valley, the low and eventually mid level winds began to veer to the southeast off [...]

The coastal low is clearly becoming the primary low pressure system this evening as very strong lifting is developing off the coast along with a classic satellite signature of cyclogenesis.
The radar this hour is clearly showing an area of very heavy rain just south of Cape May, New Jersey moving north towards the coast. [...]

Clouds are already building over much of the northern Mid Atlantic this afternoon in response to the increasing moisture from the Atlantic as the high pressure system that has produced great weather conditions the past few days now exits into the Atlantic. A weak mid level disturbance was able to use some of this [...]

High pressure is currently to the east of the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan area producing light and variable winds and relatively warm temperatures. Comfortable conditions are expect through tomorrow afternoon with highs pushing well into the 50’s for most locations for highs with the exception of the immediate coast where temperatures will [...]

Much like yesterday, this morning is starting out cold with temperatures through out the New York and Philadelphia metropolitan areas in the teens and twenties. Thankfully, this morning the pressure gradient is much weaker with sustained winds around 5 to 15 mph rather than around 20 mph, so temperatures that are around 25 feel [...]

It is rather clear this morning what feature has a dominant hold on the weather pattern for much of the Northeast, Great Lakes, and Mid Atlantic as a strong surface and upper low continue to sit over the Canadian Maritimes and a negative NAO pattern locks in.
The pressure gradient over the New York City [...]

If you want to see what a developing strong negative NAO pattern looks like, take a look at this morning’s water vapor satellite image. The upper low associated with the coastal storm off the New England coast is clearly dominating the weather pattern for the much of the Northeast and Mid Atlantic. The upper [...]

If you like cold air and a chance of snow each day, you are going to love the next several days if not this whole month!
The area of low pressure off the New England coast continues to rapidly deepen this morning. Note the isobars on the surface map. When these bars tighten like what [...]

A strong secondary cold front has moved through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas this morning, driven by the rapidly deepening area of low pressure to the east of northern Maine. This low pressure system in combination with a high pressure system over the Mid West is producing an impressive pressure [...]

The coldest day so far this winter season was experienced today with highs throughout the New York City and Philadelphia metropolitan areas in the 20’s and lower 30’s. The stiff northwesterly winds through the day didn’t help matters, making temperatures fell like the mid to upper 10’s through the afternoon. However, now high pressure [...]
