There is little change in the overall upper level environment through out the Tropical Atlantic as strong shear continues to dominate. As a result, no significant development has been observed and none is expected over the next 48 hours. A weak disturbance along an old cold front boundary over the western Caribbean will need [...]

While strong shear continues to dominate much of the Tropical Atlantic, model guidance does hint for the potential for tropical development over the eastern Gulf of Mexico or western Caribbean Sea by next week.
The water vapor image this morning shows a cold front is driving through the eastern Gulf of Mexico, producing strong [...]

The tropical Atlantic remains quiet this morning as strong westerly upper level winds dominates much of the tropical Atlantic. The strong westerly winds are producing shear throughout the Tropics which will continue to inhibit development of any tropical system. Once again, I am going to keep an eye on the Gulf of Mexico this [...]

The tropical Atlantic remains generally quiet this morning however there is one interesting area that I will continue to keep an eye on. This convection developed due to the influences of a disturbance over the southern Plains [...]

No significant changes have been observed from yesterday in terms of tropical development. Strong shear is still present over much of the Tropical Atlantic, inhibiting any type of development. I am keeping an eye on the Gulf of Mexico however. Currently, southwesterly upper level winds will produce too much shear over this region to [...]

The tropical season has officially started this morning. Already the young season has already produced a hybrid tropical low along the Gulf Coast and the first true tropical depression over the Gulf Stream in the month of May. Will June become a month of active tropical development? Time will tell, of course.
This morning, I [...]
